HERITAGE

LEATHER IS IN OUR DNA. IT IS THE START OF OUR STORY.

"The Edelman story starts in New York City in the early 1950s, when my grandparents, Teddy and Arthur Edelman, took over my great-grandfather's reptile skin company, Fleming Joffe. They began their own legacy bringing exquisite leather into the fashion world - later renamed Edelman Leather. They were pioneers, becoming the most recognized names in leather for the fashion industry, and later on, interiors.

New York was bursting with energy, and Teddy and Arthur were a part of the young and talented. Together, they introduced snakeskins to the American shoe market and were the first to produce colored snakeskins for global fashion. Next, they brought out alligator for shoes and bags. No one had ever seen anything like it before.

By day, they ran the Edelman Leather showroom on Park Avenue. By night they hosted the most influential editors, creators, and designers of their time – Diana Vreeland, Fornasetti, Roger Vivier, Andy Warhol, and many others frequented their famous Greenwich Village townhome. They were warmly revered throughout the European leather industry, and back home in New York became known as the go-to people for the highest-end fashion leather."
